Universal Design

It has taken years of research and trial and error design, but we now know, there is a better way. Universal Design is a type of home design that offers visually appealing spaces and a much more comfortable lifestyle to people as their physical abilities change through life.

Universal Design looks attractive and people with disabilities think that this new type of design opens new possibilities and relieves them of having to settle into something institutional and undesirable. Those people who don’t have disabilities appreciate the flexibility and comfort that this new design offers.

The traditional home can cost thousands for an injured, disabled or aging person to retrofit with accessible features. Designing and building a home incorporating Universal Design eliminates the need to leave a home or spend thousands on remodling when a person's needs change.  Universal Design is also value added, meaning that, buyers get more for their money. In new construction, the additional cost is relatively small and the enhanced usability is greater for all.

We’re all looking for something new. We’re all looking for a better way to live comfortably in our own homes, for as long as we’d like. Because of Universal Design people who are very different can enjoy the same home, and that home will be comfortable for all who live there.

Simple Universal Design Features:

  • No Step Entry. No one needs to use the stairs to reach and use the main rooms in the home.
  • One Story living. Eating, cooking, dining and entertaining are all located on one level.
  • Wider doorways.  Wider Hallways.
